Mission to the northern lights

The aurora borealis lights the north sky above Eagle River, Alaska, in the early morning on Oct. 25, 2005. The strange lights in the sky have inspired mythology, folklore and art in cultures across the Northern Hemisphere. Now a joint Canadian-U.S. project aims to understand how solar energy becomes the northern lights.
