Dr.
Today, I had a nice conversation with this lady in our cafeteria at NRC, from whom I buy a large size heavy Colombian coffee sometimes when I get too tired to keep my eyes open after 3:30 pm:
Carol: you seem to be very busy?
Me: well, it is the end of the semester and I have so many papers to mark.
Carol: I thought you are a researcher, eyyy?
Me: No, I am doing a PhD at Ottawa U, but I work on my research here.
Carol: So, what is a PhD?
Me: mmm, after getting an undergrad degree, one may continue toward graduate level which is normally a two-year master program followed by a four-year PhD.
Carol: So, you gonna be what?
Me: A "doctor"!
Carol: A physician doctor?
Me: No, a science doctor
... and we laughed together. While adding sugar and milk, I wondered how come she still does not know that they are not doing anything related to medical sciences in our institute although she always chats with so many engineers and doctors :)
