Destiny
بر بوی پسته آمد و بر شکر اوفتاد
See the destiny; the parrot of my heart came to your lips…
because of pistachio’s smell, but achieved the sweetness…
I am not sure if the translation makes sense in English. However, the story is that in past times, one of the fun activities that 'parrot-keepers' were used to do was to hold a pistachio between their lips in front of the bird. The parrot will then be intrigued to pick the pistachio and eat it. Therefore, there would be a lip to lip kind of kissing between the bird and the master. This poem implies that the parrot initially has a simple motivation which will finally lead to a wonderful-unexpected result (called destiny here).
The same thing can sometimes happen specially in spritual ways. God has asked human beings to do this or don't do that. I beleive in most cases these would result in a far better accomplishment which could not be described from the begining :)
BTW, Anyone knows the complete poem? Also, I think one of Iranian singers (perhaps Shajarian) has a song on that.
