Looking for a job

(c) Aali 2005
It was winter. Chabahar, a city located in the southeast of Iran, was warm though. We were asked to investigate the corrosion of the rebars in concrete structures of Imam Ali hospital, the only medical facility in that city. It was terrible. Among the corroded parts was the ceiling over which many patients were resting. There was a chance of the collapse of those areas anytime. We had to drill holes and yet cause no disturbance for the people.

And there came this man. I am trying to remember his name. A cool name from the Sistan and Baluchistan part of Iran. He was responsible for a family of five I think. Looking for a job, any job any kind of work that he can get some money so that to bring a simple food home that night, he asked "Do you need any help?". I was up on the barrel trying to locate the best place for drilling. What could I say? That area is famous for smuggling thanks to being near the border with Pakistan and Sea of Oman. He was at least looking for a nobly way of living. He helped us with moving the stuff and shared some of his experiences about the history of that building, which were somehow used in the report as the local investigation!

Going on a trip, meeting new people and facing challenging situations all would add to the improvement of ones personality. Developing an open mind and a big heart are among the unique results.

cool story my freind, only concern of mine:did he consent to having his picture and his personal life story published?
We are all entitled to our privacy.

you are right! mmm, what should I do? he told his story to a couple of people whom he just met randomly. Does he care if this become public? Do you think if the professional photographers who go deep into the African jungles or travel to East Asian islands, collect any consent from tribal habitants? I would never do this if I know that someone's privacy might be harmed.

No dout you do not mean any harm.
Let's think it this way:

1-He felt comfortable sharing his story with YOU at THAT TIME.We even do not know if he feels the same about you now,let alone about whoevere else who gets exposed to this page.

2- sharing somebody's story is different from sharing his picture.

3-What if this hard working man's kids read this. They could be proud of their father but may not be happy about EVERYBODY knowing his story.
How would any of us feel?

4-You seem like you have done your research about "ethics and photographing".I have not,but I know that there is a huge difference between "legality" and "ethics".Sometimes we do not break the law but we might break a heart.

forgot to say...my suggestion:why not concealing the eyes if you really insist on keeping the picture in your blog?

Hey Anon,

Do you think if it was a story! I just made a point on his intetion of working and I made it clear that it was an hounarable way of living in that region. Don't you think that this is more of a compliment kind? You are just taking it too seriously. It is somehow apparent from the fact that you don't even use your name! I have so many pictures and stories that is for sure "interesting" for the people who love to sneak into the life of others. This purticular one (although it is not really a story!) found its way to here as I felt good about this man.

Pictures have more to say than the stories. I think I'd rather keep his picture and delete the story.

You are right about the difference of 'law' and 'heart'. This has probabely nothing to do with this post though.

This guy has not done anything shamefull to be concealed on the eyes. His kids will be proud of their dad forever.

Hi, you seem to be a very nice person and also kind, I agree that you are being positive but to be honest, you are not allowed to publish anything without the permission of people, this is something accepted by the whole world and it seems that you enjoy revealing people's lives which is not nice at all.

I agree with this anon (1) as well, for example I do not have a blog either but I look through people's blogs whenever I am searching for something, this is the case when you publish something like a piece of writing, any photo, or anything else and you should either make it clear or make reference, and this is no big deal. I am from India and it sounds to me as all the majority of us as eastern people do not take such rules seriously and it is not nice really.

By the way, I really enjoyed the pictures of Indian musicians, they are lovely and you have given perfect reference,

Good luck and wish you best,
I can give you my email so we can talk about this in details, and don't be cross over people's complimenets or comments, after all you are writing to be criticised or approved in whichever case your own personality improves,

keep up the good work,
Sheetal

Thank you Sheetal for your comment,

Do't get me wrong! I hate revealing people's personal lives. As for photo, I own the copyright and I do make the refernece on all other things that I put in my blog.

The Indian dance was amazing. I'd be happy to make a new friend in Ottawa/Canada through email.

OK! I sprayed and resized the image so that the face would not be sharply clear.

Nice discussion was it :)
